"Have you ever heard of the word "Pop" used before? No, it's not just another word for soda. You might have
heard the word "Pop music","Pop icons", or "Pop culture."
"Pop" is short for the word popular and what that means
is "Pop"appeals to the masses. It is what follows trends in movies, music and T.V. and "Pop" was also a major Art Movement
from the 1950's and 1960's which, to you, may seem like ancient history. Today, there are still quite a few people around
who can remember it.
Pop art and Advertising
Have you ever
seen a can of Campbell's soup in your kitchen at home? Have you ever read a comic strip in the newspaper? Have you ever seen the same picture of
a famous person on the cover of many different magazines?
Some
of the objects and images that we see in everyday life, became an inspiration for the Pop art movement.
New artists still use pop culture, images, and objects as a subject for their artwork today.
We know that advertising has become a major industry today and influences what people buy, use
or"consume".
Can Pop Art do the same thing? Or is it the things that people buy,
use or "consume" affect the type of art , artists create?
Pop Art was directly influenced by advertising and trends in America .
